About The Program 

The Master of Science in Biotechnology (MSBT) is a 35-credit-hour, 12-month online degree that provides a foundation in the scientific and business components needed to advance biotechnologies. The goal of the MSBT program is to develop comprehensive knowledge in bioscience and core laboratory technologies alongside the entrepreneurial strategies used to support biotechnology enterprises. The program is designed to give students the flexibility to pursue advanced training in biotechnology through comprehensive coursework and practical, career-focused instruction.

What Makes the 91md´«Ã½ MSBT Different

Unlike programs that focus narrowly on laboratory science, the 91md´«Ã½ MSBT integrates bioscience training with the regulatory, entrepreneurial, and project-management skills graduates need to move discoveries from bench to marketplace.

What Can I Do with a Master of Science in Biotechnology?

The 91md´«Ã½ of Medicine (91md´«Ã½) MSBT is designed to expand professional opportunities across the biotechnology sector by strengthening the scientific knowledge, technical skills, and entrepreneurial perspective needed in a fast-growing industry. (According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, biotechnology‑relevant occupations continue to show steady growth: biological technicians are projected to grow 3% from 2024 to 2034, adding about 2,900 jobs and generating roughly 9,100 openings per year, while the broader life, physical, and social science occupations category, which includes biochemists, biophysicists, chemical technicians, and agricultural/food scientists, is expected to grow faster than average, with 144,700 annual openings driven by both new job creation and workforce replacement needs; additionally, medical scientists are projected to see continued employment growth over the decade, reflecting expanding demand for research, laboratory innovation, and biotechnology development across healthcare and industry (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, n.d.).

 

Admission Requirements

Applicants should possess:

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution

  • A current résumé or curriculum vitae
  • Official transcripts (see below)
  • One letter of recommendation 
  • Payment of the $50 non-refundable application fee.
  • Completion of a required virtual admissions interview

Official Transcripts Submit official transcripts electronically through Parchment, selecting Morehouse School of Medicine as the recipient. Within Parchment, search for msmonline@msm.edu to ensure transcripts are routed correctly.

Applicants with collegiate coursework completed outside the United States must upload an unofficial copy of a course-by-course credential evaluation as part of the application process
