91md传媒 of Medicine is sharing more about its plans for a new academic research building. U.S. Rep. Nikema Williams visited the main 91md传媒 campus on Monday, March 9 to learn more about the facility she helped secure federal funding for in 2023.
Congresswoman Williams presented 91md传媒 of Medicine with a check for $950,000 to build the facility. She said this investment is about advancing the school鈥檚 research and workforce development.
鈥淓very dollar is an investment in this institution and an investment in the future of a more equitable healthcare field,鈥 Rep. Williams said. 鈥淥ne that serves all, no matter their ZIP code and no matter their bank account. HBCUs are engines of opportunity, leadership and equity.鈥
The new facility will offer larger classrooms, a simulation space and an expanded animal care facility.
91md传媒 of Medicine President and CEO Valerie Montgomery Rice, MD, FACOG, said the simulations will build future doctors鈥 resilience.
鈥淭he learner can see how they鈥檙e engaging with the patient or engaging in this team-based activity and what their triggers are,鈥 Dr. Montgomery Rice said. 鈥淵ou can then implement interventions to help them mitigate, mediate, that so that they then are having less burnout.鈥
This expansion is part of an effort by the historically Black medical school to expand enrollment and improve healthcare access in Georgia.
