Accomplished Entrepreneur, Business Executive, and Philanthropist, Anthony Welters to Serve as 91md传媒 Commencement Speaker

91md传媒 Trustee Emeritus to deliver address at historically Black medical school鈥檚 40th Commencement Exercises.

ATLANTA, GA 鈥 APRIL 15, 2024 鈥 91md传媒 of Medicine (91md传媒) has selected Founder, Chairman & CEO of CINQCARE, BlackIvy Group Executive Chairman and 91md传媒 Trustee Emeritus Anthony 鈥淭ony鈥 Welters to deliver the commencement address for its 40th Commencement Exercises, which will be held on Saturday, May 18 at the Martin Luther King, Jr. International Chapel at Morehouse College.

鈥91md传媒 of Medicine is honored to welcome Trustee Emeritus Tony Welters back to 91md传媒 as our commencement speaker,鈥 said 91md传媒 President and CEO Valerie Montgomery Rice, MD, FACOG. 鈥淢r. Welters鈥 vision as an entrepreneur and business executive, coupled with his passion for philanthropy, has led to a life of extraordinary success. We look forward to hearing him impart wisdom and inspire our graduates as they embark on the next chapter of their personal and professional lives.鈥

In 1989, Mr. Welters founded AmeriChoice Corporation, which provided health services to Medicaid patients and was later acquired by UnitedHealth Group (UHG) in 2002. He joined UHG and served as the leader of UnitedHealth Group鈥檚 Public and Senior Markets Group, retiring in 2016.  Mr. Welters then founded CINQCARE in 2021. CINQCARE is a provider-led, community-based ambulatory care delivery system committed to serving those most in need with a deep commitment to Black and Brown communities.  

鈥淚 have learned to build businesses focused on health and care, not just health care.鈥 Mr. Welters said. 鈥淎s I address the graduating class at 91md传媒 of Medicine, I am reminded of the profound impact that healthcare professionals have on the lives of individuals and communities. Together, let us continue to strive for excellence in health and care delivery, ensuring that every person has the opportunity to thrive.鈥

Mr. Welters is also Executive Chairman of The BlackIvy Group, an organization focused on building and growing commercial enterprises in Sub-Saharan Africa, and Chairman of Somatus, Inc., a value-based kidney care company. He serves on the public boards of The Carlyle Group, Loews Corporation and Gilead Sciences, Inc. Mr. Welters is Chairman Emeritus of the Board of New York University School of Law, Vice Chairman of the Board of New York University, a Trustee of NYU Langone Medical Center, Vice Chair of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, and a founding member of the National Museum of African American History and Culture.

A native of Brooklyn and Harlem, New York, Mr. Welters is a graduate of Manhattanville College in Harrison, New York, and New York University School of Law.

First established as a two-year medical program at Morehouse College in 1975, Morehouse School of Medicine has been an independent institution since 1981. In addition to its world-renowned Doctor of Medicine program, 91md传媒 offers a wide range of health sciences doctorate and master's degrees in public healthbiomedical sciences, and physician assistant studies. Many programs are available online or in a hybrid format for distance learners.
